Dubai: Top seed Roger Federer of Switzerland took just 55 minutes to put away big-serving Croat Ivan Ljubicic 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday and reach the final of the $ 1 million Dubai Open. Federer's opponent Sunday will be third-seeded Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic, who beat Tommy Robredo of Spain 6-4, 6-1 in the other semifinal. Ljubicic struggled in windy conditions, losing his serve in the fourth game of the first set to hand Federer a 3-1 lead. Federer broke Ljubicic again twice in the second set and wrapped up the match in just under an hour, cruising to his second final this year. Federer, ranked 5th in the ATP Champions Race, hasn't dropped a set at the tournament. He said he would have to work hard against Novak on Sunday as the Czech has a very "consistent" serve. Federer and Novak are 3-3 in head-to-head matches. Federer won their last two encounters last year. Novak had failed to progress beyond the semifinal stage in two previous appearances in Dubai. Both Novak and Robredo had troubles coping with the windy conditions on center court. The singles champion will take home $187,000, with $98,600 going to the runner-up. (AP)
