Dipika Pallikal wins Belgium junior open

Dipika Pallikal, a trainee at the ICL squash academy, won the girls U-13 title at the recently concluded Belgium Junior Open.

Chennai: Dipika Pallikal, a trainee at the ICL squash academy, won the girls U-13 title at the recently concluded Belgium Junior Open. Dipika, seeded number one in the European Squash Federation ranking, defeated local Lass Toke Jan Weisemael 9-0 9-6 9-2 in the final. En route to the final she defeated Maeba Fernandez (France) in the semifinal 9-2 9-4 9-3 and Anne Jonger Den (Ned) in the quarterfinal 9-0 9-2 9-3. The tourney was held from October 31 to November 2. This is Dipika's second European title in 2003. She along with a dozen Indians will participate in the Scottish and British Junior Open next month, a Squash Rackets Federation of India release said today. According to the release, SRFI has charted a long term plan for a large pool of juniors with a view to excelling in the World Junior Men and World Junior Women Squash Championships in 2004 and 2005 respectively.
