Davis Cup: US lead Belarus 1-0

The USA took a 1-0 lead in their Davis Cup semi-final tie against Belarus when Andy Roddick defeated Vladimir Voltchkov 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in Charleston.

The USA took a 1-0 lead in their Davis Cup semi-final tie against Belarus when Andy Roddick defeated Vladimir Voltchkov 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in Charleston, South Carolina on Friday. World number two Roddick broke his own world record for the fastest serve on the way to victory. The world number two gained an early break for a 2-0 lead and that provided the perfect platform for a 6-2 first set victory. Impressive tennis Voltchkov fought his way back into the match with some impressive tennis in the second set. However, despite his improvement in form, Voltchkov was broken in the fifth game of the set as Roddick once again gained the upper hand and went on to close out the set 6-4. Voltchkov continued to give his all in the third set, but again Roddick broke serve and there was no way back for the Belarussian from 2-1 down. Roddick served out a 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 victory moments to hand the USA a 1-0 lead in the tie. (AP)
