New Delhi: A four-member Indian team led by Sandeep Kirtane has left for Barcelona to take part in the Junior Davis Cup final to be held from the September 28-October 3. India had blanked Japan 3-0 in the Asia Oceania Zone semifinals in Colombo in April to book the final berth for the second time. The Indian Junior Davis Cup team looked confident hours before their departure to Spain where they will participate in the ITF Junior Davis Cup finals. Coach confident This is the first time that an Indian Team has qualified to play the finals. And it will be up to the three youngsters Sanam Singh, Rupesh Roy and N Jeevan to find India a place at the top in Spain well. Their coach of three years Sandeep Kirtane, a former Davis Cup player himself, seems confident. The trio had put up a tremendous performance in the ITF junior Davis Cup Asia-Oceania under-16 tennis tournament in Colombo in February this year, not dropping a single set in either the singles or doubles matches. And it was this win that has secured them a place in the finals. In answering the question, what happens to Indian tennis after Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes, one need not look too far beyond this trio of talent. Their level of performance at the Junior Davis Cup is hopefully just the beginning of a promising career in international tennis.
