Davenport in Bell Challenge semifinals

American Lindsay Davenport advanced to the Bell Challenge semifinals on Friday, beating France's Stephanie Foretz 6-4, 6-0.

American Lindsay Davenport advanced to the Bell Challenge semifinals on Friday, beating France's Stephanie Foretz 6-4, 6-0.

Davenport is playing her third singles tournament since returning after giving birth to her first child in June.

The three-time Gland Slam champion returned to play in September, winning the Bali Open and reaching the semifinals in the China Open.

Davenport will face second-seeded Vera Zvonareva of Russia in the semifinals Saturday. Zvonareva beat eighth-seeded countrywoman Olga Poutchkova 6-2, 6-1.

In the other quarterfinals, American qualifier Julie Ditty beat compatriot Vania King 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, and third-seeded Julia Vakulenko of Ukraine defeated fifth-seeded Olga Govortsova of Belarus 6-3, 6-2.
