Davenport crushes Dokic at New Haven

Lindsay Davenport beat wild card Jelena Dokic 6-2, 6-1 in the second round of the $625,000 WTA hardcourt tournament in New Haven, USA.

New Haven: Top seed Lindsay Davenport easily bounced wild card Jelena Dokic 6-2, 6-1 in the second round of the $625,000 WTA hardcourt tournament, the final tune-up for next week's US Open. A runner-up to Venus Williams each of the last three years at the tournament, Davenport advanced to the quarter-final. Dokic has lost all eight meetings with Davenport, who had received a first-round bye. In another second-round match yesterday, Anna Pistolesi of Israel rallied for an impressive 0-6, 7-6 (7/5), 6-2 triumph over Russia's Vera Zvonareva. Pistolesi has been running into form heading into the US Open, winning titles this month in Poland as well as Finland. (PTI)
