Coria into Nasdaq Open semis

Third seed Guillermo Coria of Argentina became the first man to reach the semi-finals of the Nasdaq-100 Open.

Third seed Guillermo Coria of Argentina became the first man to reach the semi-finals of the Nasdaq-100 Open after beating Germany's Nicolas Kiefer 6-3, 6-3 on Wednesday. The opening set was close after the first six games were shared, but Coria broke twice to take the set 6-3 in 32 minutes. The unseeded German found himself 3-0 down in the second set and dropped his serve once more as Coria covered the court with great speed. The end came after one hour 11 minutes on court when Kiefer committed his 30th unforced error on match point and the Argentinian emerged a 6-3, 6-3 winner. Coria will play 21st seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile or unseeded Andrei Pavel of Romania for a place in the final. (AP)
