Berlin: Kim Clijsters won for the 18th time in 19 matches, routing Ukraine qualifier Yuliana Fedak 6-1, 6-0 to reach the second round of the German Open. The former top-ranked Belgian continued her strong comeback from a 10-month layoff with a left wrist injury, needing just 44 minutes to win at the $1.3 million event. The German Open is a warm-up event for the French Open, which starts in three weeks. The clay-court event boasts a strong field, led by Maria Sharapova - who could become the world's top-ranked player by winning the title - and Amelie Mauresmo. Showers later led to the rescheduling of matches involving several star names, including Belgium's Justine Henin-Hardenne, who is chasing a third straight clay title. Russia's sixth-seeded Nadia Petrova advanced 7-5, 6-4 over Czech Republic's Klara Koukolava, while Dally Randriantefy of Madagascar upset ninth-seeded Nathalie Dechy of France 7-5, 6-1. Argentina's Gisela Dulko rolled past 15th-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-4. (AP)
