Melbourne:

There's confusion over whether Kim Clijsters will be able to take part in the Australian Open. She still hasn't submitted her entry as yet. But her agent insists that she's still hoping to play. The former world number 1 has missed the last three grand slam tournaments because of a wrist injury. She's been out of the game for the last 6 months and failed in her comeback bid in October. Clijsters' absence from the Australian Open is another setback for the Belgian's attempt to come back from the injury to her left wrist, which has forced her to take long layoffs this year and seen her world ranking plummet to 22.
