Berdych through to third round

Tomas Berdych started the defence of his Paris Masters title with a victory over Belgian Olivier Rochus on Wednesday.

Tomas Berdych started the defence of his Paris Masters title with a victory over Belgian Olivier Rochus on Wednesday. However, the Czech was made to work hard for the win, coming from a set down to take the second round match 6-7, 6-4, 6-2. In other matches, there were wins for the unseeded Paul-Henri Mathieu of France over the 12th seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia and American James Blake, seeded seventh, defeated Arnaud Clement.
