Perth: Jiri Novak upset world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt in the Hopman Cup team tennis tournament but Australia rebounded with a mixed doubles victory for a 2-1 edge over the Czech Republic and a place in Saturday's championship final. Hewitt's defeat followed Alicia Molik's 7-6 (3), 7-5 victory over Daja Bedanova. Australia clinched the win with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-4 (super tiebreaker) win in the mixed doubles. In another match, Slovakia beat Italy 3-0. Daniela Hantuchova won her first match of the tournament, beating Silvia Farina-Elia 7-5, 6-3, while Dominik Hrbaty defeated Davide Sanguinetti 6-3, 7-6 (4) before Slovakia won 8-3 in a pro set in mixed doubles. Earlier, Xavier Malisse ensured Belgium will play the United States on Friday for a spot in Saturday's final with a 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-2 win over Uzbekistan's Oleg Ogorodov. The Group A victory handed Belgium an unbeatable lead in the match after world No. 4 Kim Clijsters beat Iroda Tulyaganova 6-3, 6-2 in the opening match. Clijsters and Malisse made the final score 3-0 after a 6-1, 6-1 win in mixed doubles. The US and Belgium are each 2-0. Friday's match between the US and Belgium will see a rematch of the WTA Championships final in Los Angeles where Clijsters upset Serena Williams. (AP)
