New Delhi:
The last time Boris Becker was in India was in 1995 to participate in the Gold Flake Open in Chennai. This time the three-time Wimbledon champion is in Delhi as a goodwill ambassador to play a charity match and to enhance his modelling career. The German tennis legend will play a charity tennis tournament with Indian tennis star Vijay Amritraj, Wisden's Indian Cricketer of the Century Kapil Dev and film star Aamir Khan. But the last few months have not been too kind on Becker with the Munich Public Prosecutor's office investigating him for tax evasion, his personal life in shambles and his sports management company not doing too well. Winner of six Grand Slam titles, Becker along with Steffi Graf and Michael Stich, was a part of the golden generation that dominated the tennis circuit in the late 80s and early 90s. And Becker is hoping that his involvement in German tennis would see another golden period. Becker, remarked, "You cannot produce Wimbledon champions every year, luck plays a role. It is a question of finding the right people at the right time. I am very actively involved the German junior programme to develop future Wimbledon champions." But for now the German is happy with his fledgling new career as a model and is also trying his luck in the world of cinema.Topics mentioned in this article
