BA-CA Trophy: Nalbandian moves into Round 3

Number one seed David Nalbandian of Argentina secured his place in the third round of the ATP Tour's BA-CA-Trophy.

Vienna: Number one seed David Nalbandian of Argentina secured his place in the third round of the ATP Tour's BA-CA Trophy with a comfortable straight sets victory over Austria's Rainer Eitzinger in Vienna on Thursday. The Argentine took the opening set with ease against an opponent ranked 229th in the world. Eitzinger battled gamely in the second set. Despite enjoying home support, however, the Austrian was simply overwhelmed by Nalbandian. The final score 6-1, 7-5, Nalbandian now plays the former world number one JuanCarlos Ferrero after the seventh-seeded Spaniard beat Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti 6-4, 6-4. Reigning champion Feliciano Lopez of Spain also progressed to the third round following a hard-fought three-set win over another Austrian, Oliver Marach. In other games, sixth seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile defeated Spaniard Carlos Moya 6-4 7-5 to set up a quarter-final with either fourth-seeded Croatian Ivan Ljubicic or former Vienna champion Tommy Haas of Germany.
