NEW DELHI:

Sania Mirza will be hoping to draw inspiration from the Indian cricket team on Saturday as she faces six time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams in the third round of Australian Open in Melbourne.

Sania seen here in the near court beat Swiss teenager Timea Bac- Zinsky 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 in the 2nd round to setup an encounter against the world number 8.The 21-year-old who has never reached the 4th round at Flinders Park, lost her only other encounter against Venus in straight sets back in 2005.

Earlier this month Mirza was photographed with her bare feet resting near the Indian flag, prompting ultra-nationalists to launch a court case accusing her of insulting the nation.

Mirza, who has previously ran afoul of Muslim fundamentalists for wearing short skirts and sleeveless tops on court, admitted she thought about quitting when the flag row first flared, but said she is now mentally stronger.
