Kolkata:

The talented Richa Mishra continued to make waves in the pool setting her second record of the meet, as four national records fell by the wayside in the 57th national aquatic championships today. Mishra, who had created a new record in the 50m butterfly yesterday, extended her good show in the 400m medley, setting a new mark on course to a golden finish. The 21-year-old girl, who is turning out for Police Sports Control Board, swam the distance in 5:08.57 to dock about six and half seconds from her own existing mark of 5:15.28 achieved in the 2000 meet. Mishra established an early lead and finished at least 10m ahead of Karnataka girl Ambica Iyengar who had to remain content with the silver registering a timing of 5:20.79. Karnataka, who won three golds along with PSCB during the day, got their second success in the women's 50m freestyle where Sikha Tandon justified her top billing to splash a record with a timing of 26.61 seconds, thereby qualifying for the Athens Olympics. Tandon had attained the Olympics qualifying mark of 26.92 seconds in July by virtue of her timing in the first lap of the 100m freestyle event in the world championships in Barcelona. (PTI)
