London:
After terrorising batsmen the world over, Pakistani bowler Shoaib Akhtar was in London as an ambassador of peace, playing his part to dispel the notion that Islam promotes terror. "My message is that of Islam, peace and harmony. I just wanted to hang around with the kids here and spread this message in a fun way," said Shoaib Akhtar, member, Pakistan Cricket Team. The world's fastest bowler has been dogged by injuries throughout his career. He also missed out on the Pakistan team's tour to India earlier this year. But the Rawalpindi Express says he is now fit and raring to go. "I had a few injuries, a few niggles. Every fast bowler has them, but I've recovered, got wickets for Worcester. I played 3-4 games for them, and I'm recovering and looking forward to getting back to the national team," he said. Controversial figure Controversy however has followed Shoaib everywhere. His remarks about wanting the captaincy and a tiff with present captain Inzamam ul-Haq after he allegedly feigned an injury on India's last tour to Pakistan, have led to rumours about him not being a team player. But the speedster denies all such accusations. "I'm very clear about my role in the team. When I'm fit, I always give my everything for the team. When I'm not, it's obviously not possible. But yes, I just concentrate on my own game," he said. Shoaib also said that he never had any problems playing with anybody either.Topics mentioned in this article
