A first-half volley by youngster Julien Faubert and a late goal by substitute Pierre Ducasse gave Girondins Bordeaux a winning start to the season at Olympique Marseille when Ligue 1 resumed on Saturday. Defender Faubert volleyed a cross from striker Jean-Claude Darcheville into the net as Bordeaux capitalised on their first chance to open the scoring in the 16th minute. His shot from about ten metres was deflected into the net by Marseille defender Abdoulaye Meite. Red card shown The hosts were reduced to 10 men when Frederic Dehu was shown the red card for a tackle from behind on midfielder Marouane Chamakh 10 minutes into the second half. Bordeaux dominated most of the game and created a host of chances but Marseille goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso, replacing the suspended Fabien Barthez, made several outstanding saves. So too did Rame, who denied the re-invigorated home side several times. Pierre Ducasse, who came off the bench in the 82nd minute, settled the game just four minutes later after he was found by fellow striker Jean-Claude Darcheville. Teenager Ducasse, who came on for Czech international Vladimir Smicer, slotted home a left-foot shot from inside the box three minutes from time to seal the points. It was the 18-year-old Ducasse's first goal in the French first-division. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
