Bridgetown:
West Indies batsman Brian Lara, nursing an injured little finger, was ruled out of his team's first two one-day internationals against Bangladesh in St Vincent this weekend. The left-handed world record holder was replaced as skipper by Ramnaresh Sarwan, who has served as vice captain over the past year. The 23-year-old Sarwan led the West Indies for the first time in the opening match of the recent one-day series against England, which finished level at 2-2. Lara missed that match because of problems with his finger, which he fractured in March in the opening test match against England in Jamaica. Lara's recovery received a further setback in the seventh one-dayer against England in Barbados a week ago. "Bearing in mind the hectic schedule ahead for the West Indies, Lara will sit out the first two games as a precautionary measure," the West Indies Cricket Board said in a statement. Tour itinerary The West Indies hosts Bangladesh in three one-day matches and two Tests in May and June. The first two ODIs are on Saturday and Sunday in St Vincent and the Grenadines. The team then travels to England for a triangular one-day series with the hosts and New Zealand in June and July before playing four Tests against England in late July and August. Experienced fast bowlers Corey Collymore and Mervyn Dillon have been dropped from the squad taking on Bangladesh after shoddy performances against England. Pacers Tino Best and Fidel Edwards are both included and await their first one-day appearances of the season. There is also a return for left-handed opening batsman Devon Smith. He returns after recovering from a broken left thumb which forced him to miss the last two Tests and the entire one-day series against England. Squad (for two matches against Bangladesh): Ramnaresh Sarwan (captain), Chris Gayle, Devon Smith, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ricardo Powell, Sylvester Joseph, Dwayne Smith, Dwayne Bravo, Ridley Jacobs, Ian Bradshaw, Ravi Rampaul, Fidel Edwards, Tino Best.
