Kolkata :
Soccer star Bhaichung Bhutia would give a trial for a Cyprus club in the next few days, failing which he would turn out for local outfit East Bengal this season. "Bhutia has told us that he will be going to Cyprus to give trial for a club there. If he fails to clear the trial, then he will play for our club," said club's football secretary Santosh Bhattacharya. Bhutia would then join East Bengal on July 28 in Leicesterhire, where the red and gold brigade was scheduled to take part in a four-team invitation tournament. Even if he clears the trials, he will be available for East Bengal from the National Football League onwards towards the end of the year. Bhattacharya, who claimed that the club had concluded a verbal agreement with the poster boy of Indian football, said that Bhutia was reluctant to go for a written contract as he was keen on trying his luck in Cyprus. Bhutia had earlier played three seasons for the English second division club Bury FC before having a short stint with Perec FC of Malaysia. (PTI)Topics mentioned in this article
