Yelena Isinbayeva is the favourite to pick up the women's pole vault gold at the Beijing Olympics and defend her own Olympic record. The Russian had the perfect warm-up, when she broke her own world record at the IAAF Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo on Tuesday.

This was the 23rd time in her career that Isinbayeva, the reigning Olympic and World champion broke the women's pole vault world record. The 26 year-old Russian cleared 5 metres and four centimetres with her 3rd and final attempt at the height, the third time she has set a new world mark this year. Her earlier record was 5 metres 3 centimetres which was set in Rome earlier this month.
