We're done with this game. Another heartbreaking loss for the defending champions and their campaign is yet to take off. Hyderabad, on the other hand, will be pleased after winning tonight but they should have never let this game go this deep. Next up, Bangalore will be hosting Punjab on Friday at 2000 IST (1430 GMT). We look forward to your company then. Cheers!
Rashid Khan is chosen for the Man of the Match award. His bowling figures were mind-boggling tonight. He was as miserly as Uncle Scrooge as he gave away only 13 runs in his 4 overs and also bagged the wicket of the big-hitting Ben Cutting at a crucial juncture. An award well-deserved by the Afghan.
The young Mumbai leggie was once again on song with his variations and foxed the batsmen with his guile. He hunted down four wickets and gave a sniff to his team. They kept picking wickets but failed to stop the flow of runs. The asking run rate was never an issue for the hosts but a few reckless shots from their batsmen made it uncomfortable for them. The Mumbai bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Mustafizur Rahman in particular, gave it their all towards the end but the visiting team still failed to cross the line. A word of praise for Deepak Hooda who held his calm amidst all the pressure and then Billy Stanlake finished things off with a big blow. For Mumbai, once again it was a case of so near yet so far. A close loss again will be hurting.
An excellent game of cricket we have just witnessed. It went right down to the wire and in the end, it was Hyderabad who tasted their second win of the season. To be honest, they made a mountain out of a molehill. The chase was always under their control after a power-packed beginning in the Powerplay. Shikhar Dhawan was in his elements and Wriddhiman Saha also played his part. The hosts were cruising at one stage but suddenly hit a roadblock once Mayank Markande was introduced.
Ben Cutting to Billy Stanlake
FOUR! BILLY STANLAKE, YOU BEAUTY! The giant of a batsman swings his big bat across the line, gets one in his half and lofts it over mid-wicket. It falls safely and races away to the fence. Smiles all around in the Hyderabad camp, the crowd has gone mad. What a game! What a finish! HYDERABAD WIN BY 1 WICKET!
1 needed from 1 ball! Super over anybody? It is Billy Stanlake who is on strike. The fielders come in. The keeper has taken off his right glove. Here we go...
Ben Cutting to Deepak Hooda
In the air, safffeee! Slower one, on the shorter side, Hooda fails to middle his pull shot. It goes off the top edge to short fine leg, Bumrah runs forward but it falls short of him. They take a run.
Rohit having a chat with his bowler. Long on, deep mid-wicket, deep cover in place.
Slower length ball on middle and leg, Stanlake taps it down to mid-wicket and crosses for a quick single. Rohit attacks the ball but fails to pick it up. 2 needed off 2 balls.
Field comes up a bit for Stanlake. Three fielders on the off side inside the ring.
Very full in length outside off, Hooda drills it down the ground at long off and takes a run. Doesn't risk the second one there as the fielder was quickly to the ball.
This one is inside the tramline, outside off, Hooda flashes and misses. 4 needed off 4 balls!
Wide! Cutting is feeling the pressure here. Serves one way wide outside off, Hooda leaves.
SIX! What a shot under pressure! Deepak Hooda has brought the crowd back to life here. This also is the first biggie of the chase and what a moment to hit it. Cutting runs from around the wicket and serves a full toss outside off, Hooda throws his heart and soul into this shot and launches it over wide long off for a biggie. A shot reminding us of the Nidahas trophy final when Dinesh Karthik hit the winning sixer, it was a similar blow.
11 needed off 6 balls. Ben Cutting to bowl the pressure over. Can he do it for Mumbai? Deepak Hooda will be on strike as Billy Stanlake joins him at the other end. We cannot write off the thought of having a Super Over either.
Mustafizur Rahman to Sandeep Sharma
OUT! Another one bites the dust! Mustafizur has his arms aloft in celebration. A shortish length ball around off, angling away, Sandeep shuffles across the stumps to chip it over short fine leg but fails to connect properly. It lobs in the air and Krunal Pandya accepts the catch gleefully.
Smart bowling by Rahman. Another cutter around off, Sandeep pushes inside the line and misses.
Sandeep Sharma is in next. 11 needed off 8 balls!
Mustafizur Rahman to Siddarth Kaul
OUT! Caught and bowled! Mumbai can believe! Their supporters in the crowd are going crazy. A slower delivery, full and on middle, Kaul tries playing it straight but ends up chipping it back. Rahman makes sure to keep it under his grasp. Phew, this is going down to the wire.
Another play and a miss! Rahman bowls it full and wide outside off, Kaul tries to drive it through but misses. Two dot balls, pressure building on the number 9 batsman.
