The Indian women's hockey team went down fighting in the opening match of the World Cup against Holland in Madrid. A sluggish start saw Indian slide to a 3-0 lead and in spite of a fight back, they couldn't manage to bounce back. Holland, six time world champions, absorbed some attacking hockey from India in the last stages of the match. It managed to hold a resurgent Indian attack, even as Surinder Kaur scored two second half goals. India will now play Germany on Friday.
