Tampa, Florida:

Cory Stillman scored his 10th goal of the season in the third period to help lift the Tampa Bay Lightning over the New York Islanders 3-2. Fredrik Modin and Brad Richards had the other Tampa Bay goals. Arron Asham and Mark Parrish scored for the Islanders late in the game to make it close. The Islanders recorded the first five shots during the opening 10 minutes of the game Thursday night, but were unable to score on Nikolai Khabibulin, who finished with 26 saves. Modin's backhander put the Lightning ahead 1-0 at 13:28 of the first. Tampa Bay (10-2-2-1) have only lost once this season when scoring first. Brad Richards made it 2-0 after a off an Eric Cairns turnover at 17:21, scoring his first goal in nine games. Cory Stillman's goal from the left circle gave Tampa Bay a 3-0 lead 4:27 into the third. New York goaltender Rick DiPietro finished with 29 saves, including stopping all 13 shots he faced in the scoreless second period. Most of the offensive activity came in a final period flurry when New York scored twice on 14 shots. Arron Asham brought the Islanders within 3-1 at 14:19 of the third, and Parrish made it a one-goal game with 1:24 left. The Isles tried desperately for the equaliser in the final minute, but could not mount a shot with DiPietro again pulled for the extra man, and the Lightning held on for a 3-2 win. (AP)
