NHL tournament: Coyotes beat Kings

Los Angeles:

Ilya Bryzgalov posted his third career shutout with 27 saves just hours after joining his new Phoenix teammates, Shane Doan had a power-play goal and the Coyotes beat the Los Angeles Kings 1-0 in the NHL on Saturday.

The Coyotes claimed Bryzgalov off waivers from the Anaheim Ducks, with whom he won the Stanley Cup last season. His leg pads, catching glove and blocker pad still sported Anaheim's team colors, but he helped to end the Coyotes' three-game losing streak.

Doan, the Coyotes' captain, scored at 11:24 of the second period during a 5-on-3 advantage and ended a goal drought of 202 minutes, 24 seconds - encompassing nine consecutive scoreless periods.

Kings defensemen Lubomir Visnovsky was sent off for hooking and Rob Blake for holding 17 seconds apart as the Kings were blanked at Staples Center for the first time since April 2006.
