Perth:
India played the catch-up game on Sunday and conceded an extra time goal, which splashed their hopes of finishing higher up in the tournament featuring South Korea and Australia as the other two teams.
In the final of the tournament later in the day, Australia beat South Korea 4-3.
The same four teams will be in fray during the second leg of the tournament in Darwin April 30 to May 4.
Both India and China missed at least a couple of chances each and there was little to choose between them in the first half. The Chinese though lifted their game and were the better side in the second session.
China took the lead when Chi Meng broke the deadlock in the 44th minute. India's Shivendra Singh scored the equaliser in the 61st minute to take the match into extra time.
Chi Liu scored the winner early in the second half of the extra time (79th minute) to record their first win in the tournament.
India had lost their first league match 1-4 to South Korea but bounced back to hold the Australians 2-2 before thumping the Chinese 3-1 Saturday.
