Indian women's hockey team crashed to a 2-3 defeat to Belgium in the Olympic qualifiers and dented their hopes of making it to the Beijing Games.

Kazan:

The erratic forwards of the Indian women's hockey team missed chances galore to crash to a 2-3 defeat to Belgium in the Olympic qualifying tournament on Tuesday that severely dented their hopes of making it to the Beijing Games.

Mamta Kharab's girls must be kicking themselves as they dominated for most part of the match but wasted at least 10 penalty corners and conceded goals out of nowhere to bite dust.

India were jolted with a first minute goal by Charlotte de Vos but they recovered brilliantly to toy with their opponents in the first half in which they scored two goals through Surinder Kaur (13th minute) and Ritu Rani (16th) and frittered away six penalty corners in the process.

Astrid Vervaet (46th) and Gaelle Falcke (58th) scored for Belgium in the second session as the Indians wasting a couple of penalty corners.

India now have only three points from as many matches and play table toppers United States (9 points) on Thursday. Belgium and Netherlands Antilles have six points each from three and two matches respectively.
