Hyderabad:

The Indian hockey squad left here this morning for Australia to take part in the Junior World Cup starting at Hobart on October 9. "The team, having enough international exposure behind it and a couple of pre-tournament matches planned, is well balanced," chief coach Rajinder Singh said before leaving. "We are going in advance to get acclimatized to the playing conditions and the boys will play two matches in Sydney with Wales and a pre-tournament match on October 6 against Chile at Hobart," he said. "There have been some grey areas which were given needed attention during the work-out here. Penalty corner conversion, defense, tackling field goals and goal-keeping were some areas we had to work on," the coach said. India, who are placed in Pool 'C' along with Scotland and Spain, take on Canada in the first match on October 9. Australia, Chile, England and Ireland are in Pool 'A'. France, Korea, The Netherlands and South Africa are in 'B' while Argentina, Germany, Malaysia and New Zealand are in pool 'D'. However, the coach admitted they were expecting stiff challenge from Germany, Australia, Korea, Holland and Spain. (PTI)
