Doha:
It is a key match for the Indian hockey team on Sunday in Doha, which could make or ruin their chances for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. They play South Korea with the winner advancing to the semis of the Asian Games. If India loses, it will be the first time the team would miss a podium finish in the Asiad. The Indian hockey team had probably not realised that their 2-3 loss to China in the preliminary match would cost them so much. Many jaws dropped when the likes of Viren Rasquinha, Gagan Ajit Singh and Arjun Halappa were dropped from the Asiad squad. Confidence level Though the team management claims that they have the best possible team in Doha, all fingers will be pointed towards them if the players fail to perform. "Coaching is such a job that you are always at risk. We are 100 per cent confident that we will reach the semi-final by beating Korea," said Assistant Coach Harender Singh. "Even if we cannot win, as coaches we will take responsibility for that," Singh said. A berth in the Asian games final means a ticket to the Beijing Olympics. The 9-0 win against Oman might be a confidence boost of sorts, but the team needs to do much better than that to get the better of the Koreans.Topics mentioned in this article
