New Delhi:

New Sports Minister MS Gill on Tuesday rejected criticism of his becoming minister after having held a constitutional office and said he would answer his critics on the issue later.

Under attack for accepting ministership after holding the constitutional post of the Chief Election Commissioner, Gill, who took over the charge, told reporters that he accepted the post which was offered to him.

"I have been offered to be minister, I cannot make myself a minister. But accepting this is of course my decision. And whatever decision I take, I take with conviction and stand by it. I would answer the critics later," Gill said.

BJP had yesterday raised questions of propriety over Gill's induction in the Union Ministry, saying it set a "wrong precedent".

"Making persons who have held constitutional posts an MP first and then minister on party nomination definitely raises the question of propriety because this can be interpreted as rewards for past work," party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.
