Delhi has been selected as the venue for the 2010 Hockey World Cup.

The Federation of International Hockey or FIH made this announcement today in the capital.

India has hosted the Hockey World Cup only once earlier and that was in 1982 in Mumbai.

India finished fifth in that tournament. In the 2006 World Cup held in Monchengladbach in Germany the Indian team finished 11th out of the 12 teams.

India has won the Hockey World Cup just once and that was in 1975 in Kuala Lumpur.

The capital will also host the Commonwealth Games in the same year.
