Kuala Lumpur:

Indian captain Dhanraj Pillay, who suffered a knee injury during the match against Australia, would miss tomorrow's game against Spain in the Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament. Coach Harendra Singh today said the injured veteran player will watch India's concluding league fixture at the National Stadium here from the sidelines. "He has been in considerable pain, and I would not like to take any risks since this is the Olympics year and we have some important tournaments coming up," Harendra said. Pillay, 36, suffered the injury while scoring his second goal against Australia on Tuesday. Though he continued to play with a bandaged knee, it was obvious that he was in great deal of pain. Pillay, who is attempting to play in his fourth Olympics in August this year, was not included in the playing 16 yesterday for the game against Korea. Team sources revealed that the swelling was still to subside and the player might undergo an MRI scan on his return to India on Monday next as a "precautionary measure." Pillay was the second Indian player to suffer an injury during the seven-nation tournament here. On Sunday, Baljeet Singh Dhillon fractured his nose while playing against Malaysia. The player would take at least three to four weeks to recover completely. (PTI)
