India lost their first match of the 16th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, being played in Ipoh, Malaysia, against Australia.

There were no goals scored in the first half, though India had a couple of good chances.

Then in the 51st minute Australia broke the ice, as Eli Matheson scored the only goal of the match.

India, with a side of six rookies, a new coach, and a new captain, played their first match after their disastrous campaign at the Doha Asian games, where they failed to make it to the semi-finals.
