Asian Games: Baskaran set to train probables

Rourkela:

Indian Hockey coach V Baskaran must feel like he's in a cage these days. The man who was at the helm of India's disastrous campaign at the World Cup now has taken charge of the 38 probables for the Asian Games. "We have to work on our mental toughness. We lost due to last minute goals. This is something that needs to change. At that level it's all a mental game," said Baskaran. Captain Dilip Tirkey and Gagan Ajit Singh aren't a part of the camp because they're away playing in a Dutch hockey league. Yet, the coach says the captain will have to prove his fitness if he wants his place in the team. "Unlike the Olympics we can take a 16 member squad instead of 18. So, only the players who want to play hard and prove their will to win will find a place in the side," said Baskaran. Rourkela was the chosen venue for the camp because the surface is similar to that in Doha. Of course, if the Indians want to be in the running for the Asiad, they'll have to give a performance rather dissimilar from the one in the World Cup.
