All India police hockey championships

Jammu:

J&K has been making an effort to stage national level sports events to get the state back to normalcy after years of terrorism. Recently they had their first golf tournament in a decade and they've also played host to the All India police hockey championships for the first time. Hot favourites Punjab Police boasting of five international players including Baljit Singh, Jugraj Singh and Daljit Singh took on the CISF team. And it was Baljit who did his team proud, scoring the lone goal of the match to give his team a 1-0 win. The Indian hockey captain believes this competition can be used as a hunting ground for talented young players. Baljit Singh Dhillon, captain of the Indian National team, said, "This departmental tournament of Police, the standard of this hockey championship has certainly improved a lot and I think that it will benefit us at national and international level." This was the first time J&K was hosting these championships and most of the visiting officials feel that it's a place that could soon be hosting international matches despite the perceived security fears. And for the main organizers of the event, it was a mission well accomplished. Gopal Sharma, Additional Director General Police, J&K, said, "The aim was achieved in more than satisfactory manner. We wanted to hold a national event in Jammu and Kashmir primarily to give exposure to our team for the standard of national teams, secondly for conveying the message that you can come to J&K and play." As if the successful hosting was not good enough, the fans were treated to some colourful fire works which marked the conclusion of the championship.
