The stunningly beautiful Poipu Bay Golf Course hosted the final round of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf on Wednesday. Tiger Woods started the day trailing Jim Furyk, but quickly made up ground. Woods carded birdies at the second and third holes and went close to an eagle at the sixth. The world number one settled for a birdie and closed to within one stroke of the lead. Mike Weir could not get his game together and had to settle for a par on the same hole. Weir finished with a two-over-par 74. In contrast, Woods hit the shot of the day at the ninth hole. After his approach left him below the green, Woods chipped in for a birdie that saw him move into a share of the lead with Furyk. Geoff Ogilvy birdied the ninth a little more traditionally, but ended up shooting a disappointing 74. But no one was as disappointed as Furyk, who left the top spot to Woods after bogeying the 10th hole. A storm quickly swept through the course, leaving Furyk and Woods to cling to their caddies below umbrellas. When the skies cleared Furyk's luck did not improve. His birdie putt at the 13th hole was too quick and went in and out of the cup, forcing him to settle for par. Woods did not give Furyk any more chances, pulling two strokes clear of his rival with a birdie at the 15th hole. Furyk failed to challenge Woods and the world's best golfer tapped in a short birdie at the 18th for a six-under 66 that was enough for a two-stroke victory. The PGA Grand Slam of Golf is an unofficial 36-hole event that has been dominated by Woods, who has won it seven times. Furyk won the tournament in his only previous appearance in 2003.
