The golfing world is now turning it's attention to the Augusta National Golf Club for the year's first major.

With the 71st Masters set to begin this Thursday, past champions and a large crop of young hopefuls all made their final tune-ups on Tuesday at the storied course in Augusta, Georgia.

Ever since he ushered in a new era in golf with a 12-stroke victory at the 1997 Masters, Tiger Woods has become a favourite at nearly every major he has entered - and no where more so than at Augusta National.

Woods has won four Masters titles - in '97, 2001, 2002 and 2005 - but, while grappling with his father's losing battle with cancer, he was unable to defend his title in 2006.

After his father's death, Woods took a nine-week hiatus from golf before eventually capturing an emotional victory at the British Open and then a PGA Championship four weeks later.
