Madrid:

Golfer Shiv Kapur made a good jump up with a two-under 70 that carried him to tied 15th place at the midway stage of the Open de Madrid Valle Romano.

After 36 holes Kapur is two-under 142, seven shots behind the leaders Argentine Daniel Vancsik and Spaniard Alejandro Ca izares.

Kapur, teeing off from the tenth, started very well with three birdies on the back nine of the course and turned in three-under. But back-to-back bogeys on first and second set him back a good deal. A final birdie on eighth ensured a two-under 70 card.

Kapur is currently 97th on the European Order of Merit.

Vancsik had a spectacular eagle with a drive and an eight-iron approach seeing him land two feet from the pin for an easy three on the par-five hole. That helped him to a round of 70 and a total of nine-under 135 and in tied first with Ca izares at the halfway stage.

Vancsik is currently 118th on the European Money List and needs to get into top 115 to keep his card for 2008.

Vancsik and Canizares lead England's Gary Lockerbie (68) by a stroke, with Frenchman Jean Van de Velde (66) and Francis Valera of Spain (67) a further shot back.
