Rumford leads South African Open

A record equalling, eight under par round of 64 gave Brett Rumford the lead after the first day of the South African Open at Erinvale Golf Club.

Somerset: A record equalling, eight under par round of 64 gave Brett Rumford the lead after the first day of the South African Open at Erinvale Golf Club, West Somerset on Thursday. The 26 year-old Australian recorded eight birdies to lead by one shot over Welshman Stephen Dodds, who hit a seven under par 65. Hennie Otto and Hendrik Behrmann lead the home challenge on six under, while last year's winner, their compatriot Trevor Immelman, lies tied for 36th place after a 1-under par round of 71. (AP)
