Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei: India's Rahil Gangjee shot a seven-under-par 64 Thursday to grab a one-stroke lead from a trio of Taiwanese at the Brunei Open golf tournament. Chen Tze-chung, Sung Mao-chang and Lu Wei-chih were a stroke behind Gangjee, with Filipino Juvic Pangusan and India's Harmeet Kahlon two shots off the pace on 66. Gangjee opened with a bogey on the 10th hole, but birdied the 12th, 15th and 16th holes to make the turn at the Empire Golf and Country Club at 2-under. He then strung together four more birds from the first to the fourth holes, before another on the penultimate hole. "I did not have the best of starts with a bogey but made eight birdies so that was nice," said Gangjee. "I hit a couple of bad shots last week but I went to the range and sorted that out," he said, referring to his 15th place at the Crowne Plaza Open in China last week. Scotsman Simon Yates was in joint seventh after a 67 which included an eagle in the par five 12th hole. Yates was joined by 13 other players that included defending champion Terry Pilkadaris, Thailands Boonchu Ruangkit and Scott Strange. The US$300,000 Brunei Open is the second tournament after the Crowne Plaza as the Asian Tour began its second half of the season, which resumed after a two-month summer hiatus. (AP)
