Tom Kite shot a 7-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead over Jay Haas and first-round leader D A Weibring after two rounds of the First Tee Open on Saturday.

Tom Kite shot a 7-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead over Jay Haas and first-round leader D A Weibring after two rounds of the First Tee Open on Saturday.Kite, who has two Champions Tour wins this season and five straight top-10 finishes, had eight birdies and one bogey during an often overcast day at Del Monte Golf Course. He has a two-day total of 10-under 134, a tournament record.Weibring, who had a two-stroke lead over Haas and Purtzer after the opening round, birdied three of his final four holes at Pebble Beach to salvage a 1-under 71.Haas, also playing at Del Monte, shot a 69 en route to his 135 total.Dan Pohl (67), Mike McCullough (68), Scott Simpson (69), Eduardo Romero (67) and Tom Purtzer (70) are in a group at 136. Wayne Levi (68) and David Edwards (70) are tied at 137.Haas, a three-time winner this year, had four birdies in his first six holes before shooting 1 over through the final 12 holes.The tournament is played at both Pebble Beach and at Del Monte Golf Course. Kite and Haas will head back to Pebble Beach on Sunday, the course where Kite shot an opening round 69. It's also where he won the 1992 US Open and the 1983 Bing Crosby National Pro-Am. (AP)
