This was the 31-year-old's first major title. Four time winner Tiger Woods finished at three over tied for second place. The world number one who had the great eagle in his round failed to make a final day charge in a bid to win his 13th major.

Meanwhile, India's Jeev Milkha Singh had a good debut at the tournament. The Chandigarh golfer finished tied for 37th with a tournament total of 14 over.

Jeev, who shot a seven over on the fourth day, played his final round with Fijian Vijay Singh. The Asian tour number one later said he would love to come back next year as he enjoyed playing the course.
