American Jim Furyk won his first major - the US Open Golf tournament in Olympia Park in Illinois.

American Jim Furyk held off a bout of nerves and a late charge to win his first major - the US Open Golf tournament in Olympia Park in Illinois. Furyk hit a two-over par for the day on the last day to end at 8-under par for the course at 272. Furyk held off a late challenge from Stephen Leaney, who ended two-over par for the day at a 5-under for the course. The next on the leaderboard, a further four strokes behind was defending champion Tiger Woods. He continued his dismal form for a two-over par for the day and a three-over for the course to be joint 20th on the leaderboard.
