Marana (Arizona):

England's Ryder Cup star Ian Poultar proved too good for Jeev Milkha Singh who was routed in the first round of the World Golf Championships -Accenture Match Play here.

In the lop-sided first round duel, Poulter made easy work of his Indian opponent en route to a facile 4 & 3 win.

Poulter began with a birdie and fired five more to run away with the game. Jeev, on his part, birdied the 10th and 13th but that was too little and too late as well and the verdict was clear with three more holes to go.

"I got off to a quick start to be 3-up after four holes and I kept my foot on the accelerator and hitting good golf shots," Poulter said.

Overall, it proved a disappointing day in the office for the Asian players.

US-based KJ Choi, a seven-time winner on the US PGA Tour, was beaten 3 & 1 by Oliver Wilson, Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng went down 2 & 1 to England's Lee Westwood, while Lin Wen-tang of Chinese Taipei was outclassed by American rising star Anthony Kim 7 & 5.
