Ernie Els is up to number two in the world after victory in the World Golf Championship (WGC) event in the Republic of Ireland on Sunday.

Ernie Els is up to number two in the world after victory in the World Golf Championship (WGC) event in the Republic of Ireland on Sunday. The South African carded a final round three-under-par 69 at the Mount Juliet course for an 18-under-par 270 total, one shot better off than Thomas Bjorn. Els earned a massive $1.2 million for his endeavours and in the process, relegated Tiger Woods to outside of the top two in the rankings for the first time since May 1999. Vijay Singh was forced to withdraw from the event because of the damage caused to his Florida home by Hurricane Jeanne. (AP)
