Playa del Carmen, Mexico:
Atwal began in right earnest as he birdied the opening hole but did not get another chance to rejoice at the El Camaleon Golf Club.
Atwal bogeyed half of the 18 holes, four on his front nine and five on his way back. Only two golfers -- Mauricio Azcue (81) and Troy Kelly (82)-- did worse than Atwal. Kelly in fact withdrew after the horrendous round.
Bo Van Pelt blasted seven-under 63 to open up a two-shot lead over Chris Riley and Jarrod Lyle.
