Springfield: The first round leader at the US PGA championships is Phil Mickelson carding 3 under par 67. Tiger Woods attempting to win his third major of the year is way behind with a first round score of 5 over par 75. In fact he's in danger of missing the cut. India's Arjun Atwal was one better than that at 4 over par. Atwal the first Indian to play in this event is attempting to become the first Indian to make the cut at a major. The Kolkata golfer is having a great season on the US PGA tour. So far he has made the cut in all 12 tournaments that he has played, earning close to US$ 1 million. His best finish was second behind Phil Mickelson at the Bellsouth Classic.
