Dubai:

The curtain came down on the UEA Desert Challenge in Dubai when the winning drivers and riders took their place on the finishing ramp to a rapturous reception from the crowd. The Desert Challenge effectively ended on October 14 after Mohammed Ben Sulayem, chairman of the organising committee cancelled the final two day's special stages in view of the advent of the Holy Month of Ramadan. First up to receive his prize was Norwegian rider Pal Anders Ullevalseter. The KTM rider finished third overall, a result that guaranteed him the crown of FIM Cross Country World Champion. Spain's Isidre Esteve won the Desert Challenge on his KTM rallybike, finishing ahead of Poland's Marek Dabrowski. (AP)
