Sutil eyeing positive end to the long season

New Delhi:

After a forgettable Chinese Grand Prix, Force India driver Adrian Sutil has now turned his attention to the final race in Brazil with the only hope of ending his Formula One season on a positive note.

"It's the last one, and I'm looking forward to the end of the season, as it's been a long year," Sutil said longing for finally catching his breath after what has also been a tough year.

"Interlagos is a good circuit, I really like it.

Hopefully, we'll have a better end to the season than last year, when I had a problem and had to retire. I really want to finish the race without any problems," he said.

The Chinese GP brought disappointment for Sutil, as a gearbox problem forced him out of contention after an unlucky 13 laps. It was a frustrating end to a race that had started reasonably well, and a potential one-stop strategy should have allowed him to leap frog some of the cars ahead.

"It was very frustrating to have another retirement, and it was one of those races which you really want to forget," he said.

Sutil started from 19th, but he instantly gained two places at the first corner when Jarno Trulli and Sebastian Bourdais tangled. He managed to briefly get ahead of some other cars as well.

"There's not so much to tell. I made a good start. There was a little shunt between Trulli and Bourdais at the first corner, but I didn't really see what happened. I just stayed on the inside, which was the right way.

"The first couple of laps were OK. I passed a couple of people, but it was very hard to keep them behind, because I was very heavy and on a possible one-stop strategy. For the first stint I really had a lot of fuel."

The recovering Bourdais passed Sutil on lap 5, and he ran in 18th place for a while, before gaining a spot when Mark Webber made an early pit stop. But by then he was already in trouble.

"I did some reasonable lap times and everything seemed to be going OK. Then on the last two laps before I stopped I had a problem with the gearbox already. The seamless shift failed, and I only had normal shifting.

"I kept on going but in the end I couldn't shift any gears. I went into the last corner and I tried to downshift and I couldn't, I was suddenly in neutral," he said.

Without any gears Sutil slid wide, and came to a halt on the run-off area, having managed to keep out of the gravel.

However, he had no choice but to retire.
