Chandigarh:

Motorsports is slowly gaining ground in India. The first round of the MRF National motorcross Championship has began in Chandigarh. Top riders of the country including the two-time national champion Vijay Kumar, participated in the event, to pick up crucial points that'll add up to the final scores. "This track is very challenging, ita€™s very tough, with big jumps that need a lot of talent, techniques and patience and the best person wins," said Vijay Kumar, motorcyclist. Even though there were far more experienced bikers, paving new ground was 19-year-old Jahanvi Upadhyay from Jaipur. Participating in the novice class, she is the only woman rider among 94 entries competing in a sport which does not have a separate category for women. "The Yamaha people caught me riding very rashly once and they said see the track, if you like it, ride it. I went and rode and said I'd do it. My parents did discourage in the first race but then allowed it. If you get scared, you're dead," claims Jahanvi. Just two races old, she was on the track despite bad injuries sustained during yesterday's practice session.
