Imola:

Defending Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher edged out brother Ralf on Saturday for the pole position in the San Marino Grand Prix. The two brothers temporarily put aside worries about their mother - who is in a coma at a German hospital - to turn in the fastest laps on the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit. For his 52nd pole, Schumacher drove his Ferrari over the 4.933-kilometre layout in one minute, 22.327 seconds, 0.014 seconds faster than Ralf in a Williams. Brazilian Rubens Barrichello qualified in third place for Ferrari, with Juan Pablo Montoya fourth in the other Williams. (AP)
